Several, mostly small spots of retouching are visible under UV-light, there are small paint losses and abrasions due to framing along the edges. Fine cracks in the paint layer are detectable in places. The varnish is slightly darkened. The frame displays slight signs of age and use. The painting measure 105 x 155 cm. The framed dimensions are 110 x 160 cm. Edmund von Wörndle zu Adelsfried und Weiherburg (1827-1906) Edmund von Wörndle was born in Vienna, where he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts from 1846 onwards. His teachers were the landscape painters Franz Steinfeld and Thomas Ender. In 1855, von Wörndle traveled to Palestine and Syria, then he went to Italy for 2 1/2 years for further studies. In 1859 he settled in Innsbruck. Edmund von Wörndle specialized in historicizing landscapes, often with biblical staffage.
