    Est: $2,500 - $3,500

"1919", 24 in. x 20 in., in a period frame. Note: Attracted by the thriving art colony and historical views of the French Quarter, many American artists made extended visits to the city during the early twentieth century. The Detroit artist, Albert Worcester, stayed in New Orleans during the winter of 1918 and 1919 and exhibited with the Art Association of New Orleans and at the Delgado Museum of Art. An accomplished artist, he received his art training with Luc Olivier Merson and J. P. Laurens in Paris and Maud Mathewson in Detroit. Using a lighter impressionistic palette, Worcester painted a view through the archway of the slave quarters with a Creole woman carrying a basket.
