(1619 Haarlem - 1668 ebenda) Umkreis Markttreiben mit Pferden auf dem Lande Im Zentrum der Darstellung steht ein Pferdehandel, bei dem ein kaum zu bändigender Schimmel einem vornehmen Reiter vorgeführt wird, während die rechte Bildseite von einer mit Bäumen bewachsenen Ruine mit Bogendurchgang dominiert wird. Vor diesem hat eine ältere Frau ein einfaches Zelt aufgebaut, um ihre Waren feilzubieten. Im Vordergrund bietet sich dem Betrachter eine humorvolle Szene dar, indem ein Hund einen sitzenden Affen anbellt. Das in fein lasierender Malerei ausgeführte Reiterbild zeigt in Komposition und Motiv evidente Bezüge zum Oeuvre Wouwermans, dem bedeutendsten Pferdemaler des Barock. Ein häufig wiederkehrendes Hauptmotiv in dessen Oeuvre sind Schimmel, die, wie in diesem Gemälde, ebenfalls durch eine effektvolle Lichtführung akzentuiert werden. Öl/Eichenholztafel.
