      ATTRIBUTED TO JOHN (INIGO) WRIGHT (c.1745-1820) ATTRIBUTED TO JOHN (INIGO) WRIGHT (c.1745-1820) Portrait miniature of Richard Welsh Esqr., circa 1790, wearing blue coat, white waistcoat frilled chemise and tied cravat, his hair powdered, cloud and sky background watercolour on ivory gold frame the reverse glazed to reveal plaited hair, fitted leather case with later plaque inscribed with name of sitter oval, 60 mm (2 1/4 in) high Richard Welsh was Commanding Officer on His Majesty's cutter Surig. He was First Officer on board the country ship Eliza and died when the ship was blown up by gunpowder in March 1813. He was buried side by side with the 16 year old Second Officer George Silverlock in the South Park Street Burial Ground in Calcutta. John Inigo Wright exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1795-1819 and well acquainted with the leading artists of the day including Sir Thomas Lawrence, John Hoppner and William Owen.
