This flat rate will also be applicable to certain additional areas on shipper's normal routes, including Atlanta (Georgia), the Hamptons (New York), and the Piedmont Triad of Greensboro/High Point/Winston-Salem (North Carolina). He painted portraits and landscapes exhbited at the Royal Academy. Like artists before him, such as George Henry and E. A. Hornel, he travelled and painted in Japan. His picture entitled Japanese Shrine is in The Lang Art Gallery in Newcastle upon Tyne. He also painted in San Francisco and Hawaii.

He served in the Grenadier Guards during the war, and with his serviceman grant enrolled at Bournemouth College where he received a formal education in drawing, printmaking and painting. In 1950 he won a travelling scholarship to Rome and Florence. He resided in Cornwall for nearly thirty years.
