        20th C. Japanese Kawatsura Yoshio Woodblock - Mt. Fuji

        Kawatsura Yoshio (also known as Negoro Raizan, Japanese, 1880-1963). "Mt. Fuji from Lake Hakone" - woodblock in colors, ca. early to mid 20th century. A beautiful woodcut depicting a view of Mount Fuji, an active volcano that has been a favorite pilgrimage site for centuries, from the tranquil Lake Hakone (also known as Lake Ashi or Ashinoko Lake), finely embellished with a colorful palette. Regarded as one of Japan's three sacred mountains, Mount Fuji has been the subject of many famous artworks, including those by Hokusai and Hiroshige. Lake Hakone is a crater lake known for its captivating views of Mount Fuji. It is located along the southwest wall of the caldera of Mount Hakone, a volcano that last erupted more than 800 years ago in 1170 CE. A wonderful piece, with the artist's chop on the lower left, set in an elegant frame of a befitting bamboo pattern.
