TOKUJIN YOSHIOKA, (JAPANESE, B. 1967) TOKUJIN YOSHIOKA, (JAPANESE, B. 1967): A 'Pane' chair, polyester-elastomer fibre, designed 2006, edition no. 5/39, Note: The vendor of this lot purchased the chair from the artist's studio and the lot comes with a receipt from the artist. Tokujin Yoshioka was born on the 20th January 1967 and was educated at Kuwasawa School of Design, graduating in 1988. He studied under the influential Japanese designers Shiro Kuramata and Issey Miyake before establishing his own studio in 2000. His thoughts on design are influenced by Japanese thought from the past centuries, with reflections on nature and the natural world. His work extends into the fields of design, architecture and contemporary art and he has collaborated with high end luxury businesses, including Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Hermes and furniture designers Kartell and Driade. In 2020 he designed the Olympic torch for both the Summer Olympics and the Para-Olympics. The âPaneâ chair was designed in 2006 and draws its name for the Italian for bread. Its overall design from concept to execution took three years.

Il est inspiré par la nature et les transformations rapides, les métamorphoses instantanées illustrées ici par sa chaise Kimono. Le rembourrage de la chaise a la forme d'un kimono et peut être rapidement replié sur l'assise et le dossier. Les fentes en forme de motif permettent de tourner le tissu filigrane en trois dimensions sans plis et de le placer comme un tube sur la structure de la chaise - qui disparaît alors sous elle. "Afin de réaliser cette pièce expérimentale, j'ai réfléchi au concept d'une nouvelle chaise, qui ouvrirait les possibilités futures du design.
