Attributed to Yuan Ke Wen (1890 - 1931), Chinese calligraphy 'In the memory of Sushi'.

    Est: €5,000 - €6,000

Attributed to Yuan Ke Wen (1890 - 1931), Chinese calligraphy 'In the memory of Sushi', ink on paper, signed with stamp lower left. H. 76 cm. W. 18 cm. Sushi (1037-1101) was a Chinese poet, writer, artist and statesman during the Song Dynasty. Provenance: Dutch private collection. The owner stated: Originally, these scrolls (lot 88 and 89) were in the hands of my grandfather, born in 13th of February 1926 Sichuan, Yibin. From his two marriages, he had eight children. He worked as an important government official in the city of Chongqing in the department of food & transportation. From the many narratives told by our relatives, we understand that he was a well-educated man with a passion for art and poetry. Due to his merits working in the government, he received many gifts from his sophisticated circle of friends. The size of the family caused a distant relationship between myself and my grandfather. The many stories of his life were verbally shared by my mother, aunts and uncles. We understand that he was always socially active and helping others in need. Unfortunately, there are no details of the event of how my grandfather came in possession of the scrolls. However, we guess that these were given by someone from his network of businessmen. Eventually after his passing (10 th of May 2012), his collection was inherited by his children, one of as my mother. A few years ago, the scrolls along with other pieces were given by my parents as a wedding gift.
