        Fendy Zakri (b. 1982) Heuristic Persona 5, 6 & 7, 2019

        Est: RM4,000 - RM7,000

Fendy Zakri's works follow a minimalist artistic path. Exploring geometric forms, the artist is settled in creating art that contains more self-searching and deep reflection. Presented here are a set of flat geometric shapes painted with crisp clean edges. The unique combination of warm and cool colours gives it a modern twist. Fendy Zakri, a self-taught artist who's an engineer by training, won the Incentives Award in the Mekar Citra Gallery in Shah Alam in 2013 and was a resident artist at the Beranda Art Colony in Langkawi. He was given two solo exhibitions by Richard Koh Fine Art (Kuala Lumpur) namely Seeing The Unseen and Hyphen Jocund in 2014 and 2016 respectively. He was a finalist in the Malaysia Emerging Artists Award in 2011. He graduated with a Diploma in Civil Engineering at the Engku Omar Polytechnic in Ipoh, in 2003. • FENDY ZAKRI : Identity Crisis No.1, 2012
        Aug. 18, 2024

        FENDY ZAKRI : Identity Crisis No.1, 2012

        Est: RM2,500 - RM4,500

“He talks about appreciation of mystery and women, and in the same breath addresses – with much enthusiasm – topics like lust, desire and artistic taste.”Fendy challenges conventional perspectives with hidden images in his works, and although his work might look like a mess of colours and lines on canvas, he insists that every stroke of the brush is deliberate, every line is carefully composed. “I play with space, texture, colours, form, composition and balance ... and then distort it to make my artwork look abstract. And to hide the images within my painting even better, I explore ambiguous space, flat space and deep space,” says Fendy. He works to create illusions in his painting, illustrating a visual interplay between the sensual and practical. As seen in this piece, it is an amalgamation of sneakers and a high-heeled shoe. True to its title, it speaks of uncertainty and indecisiveness. Fendy Zakri is a self-taught artist based in Kuala Lumpur and had his first solo exhibition in 2014, entitled “Seeing the Unseen”.

      • FENDY ZAKRI (b. 1982) HA!, 2013, Acrylic on canvas
        Apr. 29, 2018

FENDY ZAKRI (b. 1982) HA!, 2013, Acrylic on canvas

        Est: RM4,000 - RM7,000

What’s so ‘Ha!’ about a head of a white horse with shades? A chess piece of the Bishop (horse head) or Theodore Gericault’s famous work, Head Of A White Horse? Lady Godiva famously sat (naked) on a white horse. But if you see the date of conception of this painting, 2013, by Fendy Zakri, you would have guessed it must have something to do with that monster YouTube hit, Oppa Gangnam Style, which took the world by storm when it was released mid-2012. Fendy is probably gobsmacked that this song with the catchy tune and some cheesy / horsey dance moves has become sensational, and made the South Korean performer, Psy (pronounced ‘Sai’ with the ‘P’ silent) into an instant superstar, appearing with Madonna, Britney Spears and on the Ellen DeGeneres and MC Hammer shows. Fendy Zakri, a self-taught artist who’s an engineer by training, won the Incentives Award in the Mekar Citra Gallery in Shah Alam in 2013 and was a resident artist at the Beranda Art Colony in Langkawi. He was given two solo exhibitions by Richard Koh Fine Art (Kuala Lumpur) namely Seeing The Unseen and Hypen Jocund in 2014 and 2016 respectively. He is a finalist in the Malaysia Emerging Artists Award in 2011. He graduated with a Diploma in Civil Engineering at the Engku Omar Polytecnic in Ipoh, in 2003. Nov. 12, 2017

FENDY ZAKRI (b. 1982) COVER BLUE, 2015, Oil on jute

        Est: RM4,000 - RM7,000

Fendy Zakri’s Cover Blue of some imaginary landscape is decidedly chilly despite the reddish line like sunrise in a broken horizon strip. Blue introspection is enhanced by dark accentuations. Streaks, drips and flicks and scraped dried areas intersperse a broad greyish horizontal areas of irregular shapes. Self-taught Fendy Zakri is not art-college-trained. He graduated with a Diploma in Civil Engineering at the Engku Omar Polytechnic in Ipoh, in 2003. He believes that “the thought behind an artwork is more important than the skills in creating it.” His first solo exhibition, Seeing The Unseen, was held at Richard Koh Fine Art, Kuala Lumpur, in May 2014. He uses a photo-editing software on a smart phone, PicsArt, to reveal the hidden. Fendy is a finalist in the Malaysia Emerging Artists Award in 2011, and won an Incentives Award in the Mekar Citra Gallery in Shah Alam in 2013.

        Apr. 23, 2017

FENDY ZAKRI (b. 1982) THE DOMINANT RED, 2015, Oil on jute

        Est: RM4,000 - RM6,000

There are two big blotches of red on the top left/bottom right diagonal, but while they are dominant, the operate as a surface veneer over somewhat abstract forms of parallel vertical lines. The red, like some kind of controlled smoke movement, can be seen as streaked over by the black in a push-and-pull manouevre. The aim is just to create a mood than to tell any story. Not all areas are taken up, making the tiny and faint strips of black as a backgrounder. Self-taught Fendy Zakri likes to play with lines, colours, composition, space and form. His Diploma was in Civil Engineering at the Engku Omar Polytecnic in Ipoh, in 2003. His mantra is: “The thought behind an artwork is more important than the skills in creating it.” His first solo exhibition, Seeing The Unseen, was held at Richard Koh Fine Art, Kuala Lumpur, in May 2014. The underlying meanings of the 13 works on show can be revealed using PicsArt, a photo-editing software on a smartphone to reveal what is hidden. Fendy is a finalist in the Malaysia Emerging Artists Award in 2011, and won an Incentives Award in the Mekar Citra Gallery in Shah Alam in 2013.

The Invisible Governments illustrates a toppled, large-sized black rook against the backdrop of a set of Kings represented with skull faces. Est: RM4,000 - RM6,000

“ My artistic vision comprises of the visual elements of line, colour, composition, space, form and texture that are set in motion by my cerebral energy, which in turn liberates the sensual experience. Fabricated raw energy is expressed through slashes of earthy colors with a savagery that challenges the subjects with force. Therefore, through sweeping strokes, harsh and brutal abstract forms are conjured .” – Fendy Zakri   The Experience illustrates a multi layered composition of colourful geometrical shapes against a luminous grey emotive background consisting of organic segments and suggests inner reflections through intuitive scribbles and scratches. The overlapping of forms and diagonal orientation of elements instills energy on the surface of the canvas, crystallising disparate components into a forceful evocative image.   Fendy Zakri is an artist based in Kuala Lumpur.
