It presents illegible signature in the lower left corner. Measurements: 48,5 x 57,5 cm: 65 x 75 cm (frame). Work configured through a loose and loose brushstroke of impressionist heritage. The work represents a country scene, where two main characters are walking and turning their backs to the spectator, showing the protagonism of the landscape with respect to the human figure. In this context the painter seeks to capture the essence and the emotion that the landscape itself gives off, enveloped in a leaden and vaporous mist that dominates the sky and which seems to descend on the grass which, through the fluidity of the brushstroke, appears to be damp. Ricardo Zamorano was born in Valencia, Spain, in 1924. He is a painter, draughtsman and engraver. He studied at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes in Valencia. He was one of the founders in the 20th century of the so-called "Estampa popular" of clear content and social protest. He has had numerous solo exhibitions in various cities in Spain, France and Colombia. In 1974 he was selected to participate in the Venice Biennale in the exhibition "Spain. Artistic Avant-Garde and Social Reality 1936-1976". Zamorano's work is inseparable from his political and social commitment, which does not detract one iota from the quality of his painting. It is for this reason that he played a leading role in the foundation and development of the group of artists known as Estampa Popular, created in Madrid in 1959, whose inspiration came from José Ortega, who was living in exile in Paris. Estampa Popular had, to a greater or lesser extent, its own existence in several important cities, such as Valencia and Barcelona. In all cases, the characteristics of its techniques were similar: the starting point was critical and social realism, and it was applied in printmaking. In other words, the representation of the social reality of a largely agrarian Spain under the boot of a military dictatorship. The prints, which were intended to be accessible to the working classes, were made with wood and linoleum plates, with strong contrasts of black and white, and with an expressiveness and vigorous strokes, as befitted the social message they were intended to convey.
