Illustrazione originale per il concorso Alinari per la Divina Commedia nel quale Zardo ottenne il primo premio. Alla mostra delle opere in concorso esposte nei locali della Società fiorentina di Belle Arti tra il 13 ed il 25 giugno 1901, la giuria composta da esimi dantisti come Isidoro del Lungo e Guido Biagi, insieme ad accreditati e rispettabili pittori cittadini come Federico Andreotti ed Arturo Faldi, assegnò dei premi in denaro ai primi classificati: il primo ad Alberto Zardo, il secondo ad Armando Spadini, più un terzo riconoscimento aggiunto all’ultimo momento e condiviso ex-aequo tra Duilio Cambellotti e “Y.S.” (alias Ernesto Bellandi) con giustificazioni che, al di là delle singole qualità, rimarcavano la rispondenza di questi artisti - e di Zardo in particolare - ai postulati richiesti, primo tra tutti la sicurezza della forma ed il suo adattarsi alla traduzione fotomeccanica.
