Felice Zennaro, also known as Leppa, saw the light of October 8, 1833, in Pellestrina, in the province of Venice. His first artistic experiences were developed at the Venice Academy, where he supposedly met Natale Schiavoni, already established in the lagoon city. Later, Zennaro moved to Milan, attending the Brera Academy under Giuseppe Bertini. His studies were often interrupted by his voluntary participation in the wars of Independence against Austria, during which he produced patriotic paintings, most notably "La Battaglia della Bezzecca," a work with a dramatic and effective interpretation, preserved at the Museo del Risorgimento in Milan, in which the artist himself was wounded and mistakenly left for dead. In 1865, he presented at Brera the work "Turca," later acquired by the Society of Fine Arts. In 1898, in Turin, he exhibited the painting "Ingenuità e buon cuore," followed two years later by participation in the Milan exhibition of 19th-century Lombard Painting with the work "Primi passi." The themes of Felice Zennaro's paintings often reflect the Risorgimento epic or are connected to it. Particularly interesting is his activity as a portrait painter, as evidenced by the paintings "Self-Portrait," "Portrait of Count Francesco Annoni," and "Portrait of Mrs. Cottini," all exhibited at the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Milan. Felice Zennaro passed away in Milan on March 7, 1926. His works are preserved in the Museo del Risorgimento and the Portraits collection of the Ospedale Maggiore in Milan.
