    • FRITZ ZEYMER (Vienna 1886 - 1940 Vienna)
      Nov. 28, 2024

      FRITZ ZEYMER (Vienna 1886 - 1940 Vienna)

      Est: €300 - €600

FRITZ ZEYMER (Vienna 1886 - 1940 Vienna) Country house mixed media/paper 12,8 x 18,8 cm monogrammed Z verso inscribed Landhausstudie Zeymer depicted in catalogue Josef Hoffmann 1870-1956. Fortschritt durch Schönheit, MAK, Vienna 2021, p. 86, fig. 11 SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE °€ 300 - 600 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE °€ 300 The Austrian designer and architect Fritz Zeymer studied at the Vienna School of Applied Arts, where he completed Josef Hoffmann's architectural class. In addition to interior furnishings, Zeymer produced costumes, postcards, posters and illustrations (including in 1908 for a program for the cabaret “Fledermaus”). Due to his family ties to the Niedermoser furniture company, furniture remained Zeymer's focus. Zeymer was wounded while serving at the front in the World War. He completed the rest of his military service in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. War press quarters. In the interwar period, Zeymer was involved in the Vienna Secession, of which he was temporarily vice-president and for which he designed numerous exhibitions and carnival festivals. After the annexation in 1938, he played an important role in the restructuring of institutions in the field of fine art in Vienna and was able to increasingly work as an architect. While working on several large projects, including for the Krupp Works, he suffered a stroke in 1940, as a result of which he died. As a student of Josef Hoffmann, Fritz Zeymer worked primarily as a designer and interior architect, although in his early days he was entirely committed to his teacher's line. This is shown by both his early illustrations and his furniture designs, whose slim lines and geometric shapes were based on the style of the “Wiener Werkstätte” (WW) set by Hoffmann. In the interwar period, Zeymer broke away from this model and increasingly preferred down-to-earth, compact forms. The villas and country houses that Zeymer was able to create show not only the influence of Josef Hoffmann and the Wiener Werkstätte but also an orientation towards the local style. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax is added to the sum of the highest bid and the buyer's premium. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items. The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
