  • Ernst R. Zimmermann, Portrait 'Bavarian Boy', around 1920

Ernst R. Zimmermann, Portrait 'Bavarian Boy', around 1920

    Est: €336 - €420

Oil on canvas Germany, around 1920 Ernst Reinhard Zimmermann (1881-1939) – Munich artist Signed and monogrammed upper left Portrait of a boy in traditional Bavarian costume Dimensions: 46 x 36.5 cm (height x width) This portrait shows a boy with blond hair and chubby cheeks, wearing a white shirt and the traditional Bavarian costume of some leather trousers. It was painted by Ernst Reinhard Zimmermann (1881-1939), who was a quite popular artist in Munich at the beginning of the 20th century. The face of the child was painted with pastose layers of colour, whereas its clothes and hair are indicated with bold brushstrokes. It becomes clear, that it was the painter’s intention to depict the boy as realistic as possible, without losing the untroubled attitude of a children’s mind. The painting is in an appealing condition with usual signs of use and age. At the forehead of the boy, there is a small restoration, which does however not affect the good impression of the portrait. At the back side, the described position of the restoration is supported by a small piece of canvas. There are minor faming marks at the edges. The painting is signed and monogrammed at the upper left. The dimensions of the stretcher frame are 46 x 36.5 cm. Ernst Reinhard Zimmermann (1881-1939) The artist Ernst Reinhard Zimmermann comes from a well-known Munich familiy of artists. He was born in 1881 as the son of Karl Georg Zimmermann, a practicing painter himself. Therefore, Ernst Reinhard Zimmermann started his training at his father’s studio and attended the Munich School of Crafts afterwards. As an established artist, he became a member of the ‘Münchener Künstlergenossenschaft’ and of the Secession, too. (cbo) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
