1994 | technique: gilded lead | 69.5 cm | signature: signed | note: Confirmation of the authenticity of the work of art - Kmentova Zoubek Foundation Lot description The sculpture "Curiosity - Iphigenia" by the academic sculptor Olbram Zoubek represents the typical features of his characteristic style. Created in 1994 as an author's cast in partially gilded lead, the statue measures 69.5 cm in height. The figure of Iphigenia appears fragile and strong at the same time, her elongated body and finely worked details evoke the spiritual plane that is characteristic of Zoubka's work. Zoubek, inspired by antique motifs, imprinted not only the symbolism of a myth in this sculpture, but also a deep expression of existential search and curiosity, which underlines the distinctive handwriting of this important Czech artist.

The Sisters by the prominent Czech sculptor Olbram Zoubek are a model of the large cement sculptures of the same name that Zoubek created in 1987 for the staircase of the Haas department store at 847/4 Na Příkopě Street, built in 1869-1871 as the first modern department store in Prague. The sculptures are also located at one of the entrances to the Czech Television building. In his artistic expression, Zoubek has arrived at a characteristic expression based on a very expressive and haptic work with matter and verticality. After graduating from the Academy of Arts and Crafts in Josef Wagner's studio, Olbram Zoubek turned to restoring historical sculptures and sgraffiti, mainly because he was inconvenient for the regime as an artist and could not exhibit officially. However, he continued to devote himself to sculpture; in 1996 he was awarded the state Medal of Merit, 1st degree. The very rarely appearing relief Prometheus and the Walker, by the Czech sculptor Olbram Zoubek, depicts a stylized gilded figure of Prometheus, which we know from the artist's individual relief images. The mythological Titan is joined on the left by a walker, who is separated from Prometheus by a hinted vertical. In his artistic expression, Zoubek has arrived at a characteristic expression based on a very expressive, even haptic, work with matter. After graduating from the Academy of Arts and Crafts in Josef Wagner's studio, Olbram Zoubek resorted to restoring historical sculptures and sgraffiti, mainly because he was inconvenient for the regime as an artist and could not exhibit officially. Jan Dvořák). Unlike other sculptures by Olbram Zoubek, of which there were dozens made from a single model, the sculpture "Reconciliation" consisted of 5 numbered sculptures. Published. Lead. A pair of the artworks. 1) Listening, author's cast, unsigned, dimensions: 90 x 80 x 30 cm. 2) Voice (Male), author's cast, unsigned, dimensions: 90 x 87 x 30 cm. Certificates of authenticity of the Kmentová Zoubek Foundation Fund are attached to these works. Slight damage, personal inspection recommended. Literature: Olbram Zoubek, Kapusta J. Jr., Klusáková J., Malina J. (ed.), Setl!k J., Brno 1996, Cat. Rais No. 394. This is a plastic model for the concert hall of Bohuslav Martinů in Trutnov. Several documents were preserved in Zoubek's archive, which tracked the progress of the entire order. It all begins with a text proposal from June 1976, in which the artist explains his idea of the decoration of the concert hall: he proposes the placement of two figures on both sides of the main visible parts, in agreement with the designer. They should multiply the visitor's experience while listening to music and at the same time inspire his imagination and create a poetically perceptive atmosphere even before the start of the concert as a foreshadowing of a cultural experience. It would probably be a figure of a man (bachelor) and a woman (girl). The subject of one character is the creation of music and the subject of the other is to receive it, let's say "player" and "listener" - "voice" and "listening". He suggests a title expressed in very general terms, without specific attributes, so that the listener's imagination is not too limited. Czech artist.

          Est: -

This impressive life-size work is an outstanding work by Olbram Zoubek, one of the most important Czech sculptors of the second half of the 20th century. After graduating from the Academy of Arts and Crafts in Josef Wagner's studio, the artist resorted to restoring historical sculptures and sgraffiti, mainly because he was inconvenient for the regime as an artist and could not exhibit officially. He created the bust (also bust) of Mary by "cutting" the figure, resulting in the separate works Legs and Body of Mary. The model here was Zoubek's second wife, Marie. His works have a special dimension of existence. They communicate with us in an abstract space with slightly staged and at the same time immediate gestures. Zoubek's recognizable handwriting was inspired not only by ancient models, but also by the sculptures of the famous Swiss artist Alberto Giacometti and female beauty. The work comes from a prestigious collection in Prague. Assessed during consultations and authorship confirmed by PhDr. P. Bregantová. Certificate of authenticity. Signed: Signed on the plinth: O. The sculpture depicting the Old Testament motif of Adam and Eve at the moment of the serpent's temptation is a characteristic work from the studio of one of the most important Czech sculptors, Olbram Zoubek, dating from the early 1990s. In his artistic expression, this acclaimed and sought-after sculptor arrived at a characteristic expression based on a very expressive, almost haptic work with matter and a subtle, stretched sound of individual figures that dominate his repertoire. His favourite element was also the combination of metallic grey with the contrasting radiance of gold leaf, as can be seen in the trio of sculptures. On the reverse of the base of each sculpture is the serial number 77, which has been stamped by the artist. The offered sculpture is owned by a prominent Czech collector directly from the sculptor. However, he continued to devote himself to sculpture; in 1996 he was awarded the state Medal of Merit 1st degree. His largest retrospective exhibition to date, comprising some 300 exhibits, took place in 2013 in the Prague Castle Riding Hall. The sculpture on offer, entitled Connection with the Cosmos, is the fourth variant of a design for a sculpture for a telecommunications facility in Prčice-Sedlce (in collaboration with Jindřich Malátek) from April 1988, which was later installed in Prague. The work exudes a characteristic, almost haptic work with matter, which is presented here with an urgency manifested by a strongly expressive female figure. In the inventory of the work under number 631. Assessed during consultations by PhDr. P. Bregantová. Signed: Signed on the back on the plinth ZOUBEK

          OLBRAM ZOUBEK 1926 - 2017 - BODY OF A KOUROS

          Est: -

Reliefs inspired by ancient motifs were among the frequent themes of Olbram Zoubek's work. Kouros is an idealized male figure typically with his hands along his body. Olbram Zoubek is one of the most important Czech figurative sculptors of the second half of the 20th century. He lived and worked between Prague, where he had a studio, and Litomyšl. Humankind and the human body are central themes in his work, and his elongated bodies reflect archetypes of human existence. In his work he emphasizes the craftsmanship and timelessness of the art object. In the author's list of works by Mgr. Jan Kapusta in the book Olbram Zoubek from 1996, this work has the number 568. The same metal (lead) relief is on display in the cellars of Litomyšl chateau. Technique: Colored cement, Signed: Marked from behind "O. Zoubek"
