History

In December 2012, Tim Ingles and Paul Hayday established Ingles & Hayday, a specialist musical instrument auction house and dealership. Tim and Paul have been working together for 15 years, running Sotheby's musical instrument department.

Tim and Paul joined Sotheby's in 1994 and 1997 respectively, and took over the running of the business in 1999.

Their first year in charge saw the iconic sale of the collection of Yehudi Menuhin, which achieved 16 auction records in 100 lots.

In 2008 they sold the collection of Albert Cooper, which included record-breaking instruments by Carlo Tononi, Carlo Bergonzi and P.G. Rogeri, and bows by Dominique Peccatte and Grand Adam. The auction's total of $5.7m also set a new record.

In 2004 Tim and Paul launched their private sale business, which has grown steadily over the last 8 years and now rivals most of the world's leading dealers. In the past five years they have sold 11 instruments by Stradivari and Guarneri del Gesù, including the 'ex-Vieuxtemps' Guarneri of circa 1740 and the 'Emiliani' Stradivari of 1723.
