Biography

BEDFORD, UNITED KINGDOM

W&H Peacock was founded in 1901 by brothers Walter and Harry Peacock. Walter had returned from the Boer War to find his position with another firm of Auctioneers had been taken, so he set up in competition.

The Company was run independently until the late 1980's when it was purchased by the TSB. Further corporate ownership followed under Black Horse Agencies, and the Bradford and Bingley until October 2000 when a management buyout formed one of the largest independent auction houses in England, selling over 200,000 lots a year.

The company now extends across Cambridgeshire, with an Auction Centre in St. Neots, and Warwickshire with Locke & England in Leamington Spa.

Bedford is unique amongst provincial towns in having a busy and thriving auction every Saturday. In fact it has four auctions all conducted simultaneously in a 30,000 square foot auction centre.
