2υo (272 x 215 mm). Engraved title, dedicatory emblem to Giacomo Soranzo Cavalier Procurator di San Marco and 70 engraved plates. (Some pale marginal dampstaining, occasional pale mostly marginal spotting.) Contemporary Italian limp vellum. Provenance: acquired from Goodspeed's Rare Books, 1988.

Fourth collection of devices by the painter Battista Pittoni, with many designs copied after Andrea Schiavone. Landwehr states that 19 seem to be here for the first time, expanding on the editions of 1562 and 1568. All early editions are RARE: according to American Book Prices Current only one other copy of this 1578 edition has sold at auction in the last 35 years, and no copy of any earlier edition has sold.
