Description

1 GAYLORD S TRUESDELL OIL ON CANVAS Gaylord Sangston Truesdell (American 1850-1899) was a celebrated painter and artist who began as an engraver. He studied in the Pennsylvania Academy and, in 1885, went to France where he worked under Ernest Meissonier and Fernand Cormon. In 1889, his painting "There's The Shepherd" received a bronze medal in the Salon. In 1892, "Vaches au Borde de la Riviere" received the first gold medal awarded by the Salon to an American painter. Another painting, "Shepherd and His Flock" (1898) is at the University at Shawnee, Oklahoma (Source: Peggy King Truesdell). This is a pastoral landscape featuring reclining cows. Signed by Truesdell on lower left. Nice moulded frame. There is a small tear in the sky area and 1 or 2 small holes thru the painting. Measures: 19" Tall X 27" Wide Condition: Very Good
