It is now already a quarter of a century ago that on November 9, 1989, the Wall, which until then divided Berlin and Germany for almost 30 years, fell and then gave freedom to millions of people. Subsequently, the hated building was degraded piece by piece and the city grew together again in most areas. Some segments of the Wall were early decorated by artists to bear witness as a memorial against dictatorship and the oppression of the events of the time and the value of freedom, in that sense for example the ‘East Side Gallery’ at the Spreeufer. But also other parts of the Wall were saved by private buyers from destruction. So also the present six segments that were designed by Fred Hahn within the framework of Ben Wargin’s ensemble ‘Den Opfern von Gewalt und Unterdrückung’ in 1990. The original location of the segments was at Schiffbauerdamm/corner of Reinhardtstraße in Berlin Mitte opposite of the Reichstag. They are designed in an expressive black and white painting. The monumental ensemble is in this form not only an impressive piece of art but also in this size a piece of world history to touch.
