Item Overview

Description

(Architecture) 7 Vols. Paris: Firmin-Didot, 1877-1890. Folios in contemporay half-calf and green cloth, 590 mm x 410 mm; wear to exteriors of all volumes in varying degrees of severity, all rather scuffed, chipped, and generally distressed, some with loss of back strips, etc. With altogether 81 numbered plates (i.e. 73 leaves of plates, some with two numbered plates per sheet), re-guarded at the time of an early re-backing. Series includes: [Volume One]: Percier, Charles. Colonne Trajane. Paris, 1877. With 13 numbered plates, as per index. * [Volume 2]: Lesueur, Jacques Philippe. Basilique Ulpienne. Paris, 1877. With 6 numbered plates, as per index. * [Volume 3]: Labrouste, Henri. Temples de Paestum. Paris, 1877. With 21 numbered plates, as per index. * [Volume 4]: Dubut, Louis-Ambrose and Coussin, J-A. Temple de la Pudicite... Temple de Veste. Paris, 1879. With 8 numbered plates, as per index. * [Volume 5]: Villain, Alexandre. Temple de Marc-Aurele (Temple de Neptune). Paris, 1881. With 7 numbered plates, as per index. * [Volume 6]: Garnier, Charles. Temple de Jupiter Panhellenien a Egine. Paris, 1884. With 13 numbered plates as per index, five of them chromolithographic. * [Volume 7]: Paulin, Edmond. Thermes de Diocletien. Paris, 1890. With 13 numbered plates as per index, one of them chromolithographic.

Internally very bright and clean, though some sheet edges are brittle and some margins may be smudged. All ex-library, caveat emptor: this series, while to all appearances complete, houses plates which have been marked at margins with library perforations, some (but not all) of which may encroach upon or traverse the plate mark. (Percier's double-page plate VIII-IX in "Colonne Trajan" is an exception to this). There are perforations to the title pages of each volume, accession numbers ink-stamped at foot of half-titles, library bookplates on pastedowns, etc. Sold with all faults.
