A BLUE AND WHITE 'PETAL'-MOLDED BALUSTER JAR AND COVER

Kangxi

The elegant body lightly molded with spiraling leaf-shaped panels and painted in bright cobalt tones with alternate panels of peony stems and lotus reserved on a blue ground between thin chevron bands at the spreading foot and shoulder, the waisted neck with further lotus petals below a chevron band at the rim, the cover similarly painted and with a knop finial.


15 3/4in (40cm) high

Condition Report

Jar: Fritting to the jar rim and foot edge but mostly unobtrusive. A chip (1in) to underside of foot edge. A few iron spots and air bubble pinpricks to surface but unobtrusive.


Cover: Large chip to rim (2 1/4in across) with adjacent yellowing restoration on rim.
