A BLUE AND WHITE '
XIXIANG JI' BOWL

Chenghua mark, Kangxi

Painted in rich cobalt blue tones with a continuous scene from the
Xixiang ji (
Romance of the Western Chamber) to the exterior, with figures in a courtly setting, below an everted rim with beribboned objects on a cell ground, the interior center with two boys in a garden setting, the cavetto plain, and floral sprays on a cell ground to interior rim, an encircled
Chenghua six-character mark to the base.


8 1/4in (21cm) diam

Condition Report

Two small chips to rim underside that rise slightly to the rim edge. Some iron-spots, air bubble pinpricks, minor glaze pull and surface wear but all unobtrusive.
