By Seiyodo Bunshojo (1764-1838), Iwami Province, early 19th centuryCarved in low relief, the centipede clambering along the length of the tusk, the concave side decorated with ferns and a poem by Kawara no Sadaijin from the love-poem section of the Kokinwakashu (Collection of Ancient and Modern Poems), signed Iwami-shu (Iwami-no-kuni) Enokawa Seiyodo Bunshojo chokoku (carved by Seiyodo Bunshojo by the Eno River in Iwami Province). 12.2cm (4¾in).

猪牙彫根付 蜈蚣に和歌 銘 「石見州可愛河青陽堂文章女彫刻」 19世紀前期Published:Earle, Huthart, p.104, no.85.The translation of the inscribed poem reads:'Like a patterned cloth / tangle-dyed in Shinobu / in the farthest north - / it must be / because of you / that my heart is in / turmoil'
