Description

A CARVED GILTWOOD CONSOLE TABLE IN THE MANNER OF NICOLAS PINEAU (1684 -1754) EARLY LOUIS XV, CIRCA 1735 with a later mottled red marble top above a pierced serpentine frieze centred by a cartouche with interlaced 'L's and carved with trelliswork, each corner with a stylised scallopshell with wings above inward scrolled cabriole legs carved with rocaille, ribbons and foliage joined by a pierced stretcher centred by an acanthus spray carved with flowers and leaves; regilt 65cm. high, 77cm. wide, 32cm. deep; 2ft.1in., 2ft.5¾in., 1ft.¼in.

Notes

A corner console attributed to Nicolas Pineau with a very similar carved central scroll was sold, Sotheby's, Monaco, 18th June 1994, lot 30.
