A Collection of Early Theatre and Opera related Photographs prints Circa 1900- Several signed black and white photographs of Sir Johnston Forbes-Robertson 1853-1937, silver gelatin print, mostly dated 1902-9 and depicted in character, Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree, as Hamlet c.1892, silver gelatin print, signed, An indistinctly signed image possibly depicting Sir Henry Irving, silver gelatin print; Robert Watkin-Mills 1849-1930, British Bass-Baritone, principal with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company 1906-7, signed and dated 1906, silver gelatin print: Woman by a garden wall; silver gelatin print, indistinctly signed Silvia Le**: together with other actors and actresses of the early theatre and opera, some indistinctly signed: European, anonymous- late 19th early 20th century- Fireworks, possibly an Albumin print, printed in red, 20x27cm: Note: Sir Johnston Forbes-Robertson actor and theatre manager. He was considered the finest Hamlet of the nineteenth century and one of the finest actors of his time, despite his dislike of the job and his lifelong belief that he was temperamentally unsuited to acting; Sir Herbert Neerbohm Tree was an actor / theatre manager, noted for his versatility. He made his name first as a character actor able to adopt widely varying styles; he continued, with liberal use of makeup, to take on a great variety of roles. He was especially noted for his attention to gesture and demeanor. he founded RADA in 1904.
