Notes

Corsi Lalli was an accomplished copyist, whose works after Strudwick and Burne-Jones, often, as with this example, in their original silver frames, have recently appeared in the salerooms. Spencer Stanhope's monumental oil, of the three Marys at the empty tomb, was completed at the Villa Nuti, his house at Bellosguardo, outside Florence, in either 1875 or 1890. It appears never to have been exhibited. It is now to be found in the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, where it was presented in 1950 by Arthur Moon, K.C., whose mother, Emma, had been born in the city.

No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 17.5% will be added to the buyer's premium, which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis.
