Mark of Jan Diederik Pont, Amsterdam, 1761
Shaped square with curved corners, on four foliate scroll feet, and with reeded moulded borders, chased with alternating panels of urns and strapwork with diaperwork and foliate scrolls, the detachable cover chased with strapwork and foliate scrolls at the angles and tassel border and with rising baluster finial, the base later engraved with two crests, marked on base and cover
5 3/4 in. (14.5cm.) high
15oz. (485gr.)
The crests are those of Wood, one possibly for Sir Charles Wood, Bt (1800-1885), created 1st Viscount Halifax in 1866
