Description

A FABERGÉ GOLD-MOUNTED ENAMEL AND SILVER-GILT CIGARETTE CASE AND HOLDER, WORKMASTER HENRIK WIGSTRÖM, ST PETERSBURG, 1908-1911 oval section, the surface of translucent mauve enamel over moiré engine-turning, rose-cut diamond-set thumbpiece, one end with vesta compartment, the other end opening to reveal the cigarette holder of amber, gold and enamel, struck with workmaster's initials and Fabergé in Cyrillic, 56 and 88 standards, scratched inventory number 21429 , in Fabergé wood case width: 9.2cm, 3 5/8 in.

Purchased from the London branch by Mrs Mason on 7 December 1911.

Notes

An idenitcal case with matching holder, with scratched inventory number 24749, was exhibited in Carl Fabergé and His Contemporaries, Helsinki, 1980, no. 1; see exhibition catalogue, p. 4. A yellow example sold, Sotheby's Geneva, 15 November 1990, lot 274, and was later in the Kazan Collection; see M. Ghosn, Collection William Kazan: Objets de Vertu par Fabergé, 1996, no. 30, p. 112-113. A pale blue example is illustrated, A. K. Snowman, The Art of Carl Fabergé, 1962, pl. 147.
