A FINE AND LARGE FAMILLE-VERTE '
SHOU MEDALLION' JAR,
GUAN

Kangxi

Of alms bowl form, with globular body, gently rounded shoulders, and rolled rim, painted with black-outlined
ruyi-shaped lappets descending from the shoulder and suspending profiled lotus flowerheads and scrolls, and with six alternate iron-red and aubergine
shou medallions above lappets encircling the foot, above an unglazed, wide wedge-shaped foot ring and concave unglazed base.

Condition Report

Generally, in good overall condition. A small chip to the rolled rim (approx. 1.9cm). A few small air bubble pinpricks, a few iron-spots and some wear but unobtrusive. Some losses to the aubergine glaze, as is often the case with this somewhat fugitive color.

Compare with another Kangxi period famille verte double-gourd vase in the Qing Court collection, illustrated in
The Complete Collection of the Treasures of the Palace Museum: Porcelains in Polychrome and Contrasting Colors, Shenzhen, 2007, p. 84, no. 77, that has very similar decoration on the lower half to the present lot including enameled
shou characters.
