A FINE BLUE AND WHITE SOFT PASTE VASE

18th century

Of rouleau shape supported on a short slightly spreading foot and rising to a rounded shoulder, the waisted neck encircled by a shallow rib and everting to a flaring rim, the glaze with an unusually high-polish finish with very little crackle and painted with large peony sprays rising from rockwork in a garden setting to one side of the body and two flying insects to the other.


7in (17.8cm) high

Condition Report

Some small circular glaze pulls at the darkest spots of cobalt but unobtrusive. A few minute air-bubble pinpricks but again unobtrusive. A small insignificant glaze imperfection at the foot ring. A wonderful quality of painting and with a lustrous glaze. Recommended.
