C. John M. Whichelo (British, 1784-1865) initially became known as an illustrator (Select Views of London 1804) and was subsequently chosen to be Marine and Landscape Painter to the Prince of Wales. Between 1810 and 1865 he exhibited at the Royal Academy, British Institution and Old Watercolour Society, of which he was elected an Associate member in 1823. Whichelo also taught for a time and his studio sale was held at Christie's, 10th April 1866.
