A MIRROR-BLACK-GLAZED PEAR-SHAPED VASE

18th century

With weighty globular body with steeply sloping shoulder and tall narrow cylindrical neck, all under a mirror-black glaze with a soft brown undertone that fades to white at the neck and the interior, supported on a orange-burnt biscuit foot ring and white-glazed slightly concave base.


9in (22.9cm) high

Two fine hairlines at the neck rim and interior (approx. 2.5cm and 2cm) but not visible to the exterior neck. Bubbling of glaze at the neck rim with some bubble bursts and pinpricks. Two larger glaze bubble bursts (approx. 0.7cm and 1cm) where the glaze meets the biscuit foot ring. The glaze at the neck edge turning slightly milky where it fades to white at the rim. A small kiln adhesion to the base.
