A NEOLITHIC PAINTED POTTERY JAR

Majiayao culture, Banshan type, Gansu province

The globular body tapers down to small flat foot, lively painted in black and red on the upper register with alternating vertical 'cowry' and 'fishnet' panels, a band of concentric circles at the base of the neck below bands of 'fishnet' and triangular patterns, a pair of loop handles applied at the waist and a pair of small 'ear' handles flanking the straight neck.
