Item Overview

Description

RKO, 1946. Pencil, ink, and watercolor on paper. The first painting is captioned "Jungle Near Leopard Mens Quarters," and depicts a line of elephants leading into the jungle, carrying people on their backs. This appears to be from the scene in the film where the women from the Zambezi School head into the jungle and are ambushed by the Leopard Men. The second painting is captioned, "Lazars Quarters," referring to the medical official who is in league with the Leopard Men, and turns out to be the film's villain. Both paintings are signed by Phil Paradise, a noted California watercolorist who taught at the Chouinard Art Institute and was employed by RKO studios in the 1940s.
9 1/2 x 7 1/4 in.
