A POWDER-BLUE-GLAZED VASE AND TWO GLAZED SAUCER DISHES

Early-Mid 18th century

Comprising an amphora-type oviform vase with slightly waisted reduced neck, an attractive cobalt-blue glaze with a dense pattern of plasma-like waves under the surface, stopping short of the tapering biscuit foot ring, the base and interior white glazed; a small foliate saucer with a cobalt-blue glaze to the interior below the brown-dressed rim and painted in gilt with a garden scene at the center, the reverse plain; and a small dark-purple aubergine-glazed saucer delicately molded or slip decorated under the glaze with three flying horses divided by flame scrolls at the well and possibly a single flying horse at the center, the reverse and base also glazed aubergine and with a clear-glazed foot ring. vase: 7in (17.8cm) high
foliate dish: 5 1/8in (12.8cm) diam
aubergine-glazed dish: 4 1/4in (10.9cm) diam


Condition Report

Vase: Neck has been reduced and polished. There is a small original kiln flaw (paste-fold) to the foot ring but unobtrusive. Some wear.


Foliate saucer: Gilding rubbed.


Aubergine saucer: A very small exterior rim chip (0.3cm). Very unusual and attractive 'flying horse' design.
