A Russian silver and enamel desk clock by Faberge, workmaster Michael Perchin, Kokoshnik mark for St. Petersburg 1899-1908, assay master Yakov Lyapunov (1899-1903), 88 zolotniks, the white circular enamel dial with black Arabic numerals and gold Louis hands, within a purple guilloche enamel mount with yellow and rose gold laurel wreath and ribbon spandrels at each corner, the Swiss double barrelled bar movement by Hy. Moser, no. 67304, with bimetallic spilt balance overcoil coil balance spring, the movement mount no. 304, with an ivory back and scrolled easel, the frame mount signed Faberge in cyrillic with Michael Perchin's workmaster's mark and scratch numbered 3490 and 14.7.22, the clock back and easel stand with Michael Perchin's workmaster's mark and scratch numbered 26826, 9.2cm (3.75in) high, in a fitted holly wood Faberge case, the silk lining with Faberge's retailer's mark (two gold spandrels lacking, one damaged) Provenance: The gift of The Hon Charlotte Knollys, Woman of the Bedchamber to Queen Alexandra and her most intimate friend and confidante, to Mrs Putnam Gibson and thence by descent. The Hon Charlotte Knollys saved the Queen's life from a fire at Sandringham in 1907 and was present at her death after fifty-five years of 'affectionate and unswerving loyalty'.

Condition Report

Box: scuffed and discoloured, has been laquered, catch broken off, tear to silk at hinge, both silk and the velvet base discoloured, gilt retailers mark rather worn, base with hand written applied label, dated 25:8:26 and a AA cypher. Clock: Dial uncracked, some dirt under glass, light scratches to hand pinions, area of tarnishing evident on the minute hand, small surface chipping to very edge of glass at 4 o'clock, some small nicks to the silver bezel. No cracks to ground enamel, except to the top end of the half remaining spandrel in top corner. This is a surface chip, not going all the way through. The rest has intermittent very light scratching. The remaining wreath spandrel ok. The edge of the silver mounts with light scratching. Marks to top mount good but dirty. The same for the back of the case and easel marks. A stock number? scratched to the base of the back of the movement '268261', the ivory back discoloured with chip to one top and both bottom corners by the screws. The lower central and one middle screw lacking. Easel hinge tight Clock Movement Condition - Running, screw missing from pallet cock, and bottom balance pivot worn - repairable and requires overhaul.
