A Small Directoire Mahogany and Brass Moulded Table Cabinet, German, attributed to David Roentgen, having sliding trays over a brass-ribbed drawer enclosed by a tambour slide, between pilasters with ribbed brass panels, on a plinth, 55cm by 24cm by 27cm See illustration David Roentgen (1743-1807) was one of the finest, most innovative and commercially driven cabinet makers of the 18th century. He perfected the standardisation of parts of his elegant furniture that allowed it to be taken apart, shipped safely to clients, and then easily reassembled.
