Description

A SMALL FAMILLE-ROSE CIRCULAR COVERED BOX AND LINER

Iron-red
wu zi deng ke (五子登科) mark to liner, first half 19th century

Finely enameled with a phoenix in flight on a dense leafy scrolling ground of mallow or peony to the shallow domed cover and further flowers to the sides of the box, the plain liner of shallow-dish shape with a small hole at the center bordered by the four-character inscription.


1 5/8in (4.1cm) high; 3 3/4 in (9.5cm) diam

Condition Report

Generally, in excellent overall condition, save for a small chip/flake to the un-glazed underside of the liner rim (0.5cm) A few minor original firing glaze pulls but unobtrusive.
