Christides' imaginary landscape bursts with an inherent energy created by the clashing warm and cool colours and abstract violence of forms. Rather than contemplating upon nature as a Romantic might have done with grand vistas, he depicts its menacing aspect in a closed composition. In striving to capture the inner forces of nature, the artist attempts to discover its dark mysteries, creating and enigmatic atmosphere of expressionistic realism.
