Notes

Though he was the teacher of both Rubens and Jordaens, van Noort's own works have received little attention, and few drawings have been securely attributed to him. The most similar in execution to this is a drawing of an outdoor merry company, in the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum, Cologne.υ1 For a general discussion of van Noort's drawings, and examples of signed sheets, see Christian Dittrich, 'Drawings by Adam van Noort', Master Drawings, vol. X, no. 2 (1972), pp. 137-143, pls. 22-25

1. See H. Mielke, 'Einige Zeichnungen Adam van Noorts' in Essays in Northern European Art presented to Egbert Haverkamp-Begemann on his Sixtieth Birthday, Doornspijk 1983, p. 177, reproduced fig. 7
