Provenance:
Edward Hodgson married the daughter of Jane Franks nee Gaussen married to William Franks II, and whose sister was Cecilia Franks, married to Samuel Robert II (1783-1818) This picture has come down through the Gaussen line. One of the pictures bought in 1837 by Robert William Gaussen was given to Edward Hodgson – it is written of the ‘shopping list'.
Bears label to verso with family history signed Jane Franks 13 June 1898

Referenced in the Brookmans Park insurance valuation of July 1915.

Note: This is a copy of the picture by Moreland which is at Woodhill, Hatfield, Hertfordshire.
William Franks was born 1755 and married Jane Gaussen in 1780. he died at Bristol July 30 1798.
