Notes

Albert Flamen was apparently born in Flanders, but worked almost entirely in France -- all his published prints bear a Paris address. One of his engravings was a title-page to a series of prints by Jacques Callot, whose influence is apparent in many of Flamen's drawings. The artist's drawings are often collated in albums (as the present sheets must have been), with diverse subjects such as the military, studies of farmhouses and birds.
