CATALOGUE NOTE

Born in Moravia, Albin Polasek immigrated to the United States in 1901where he attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. In 1916 he became the head of the sculpture department of the Art Institute of Chicago. A larger version of Woodland Idyll is in the collection of Brookgreen Gardens, Pawley's Island, South Carolina. Another stands in front of the City Hall in Winter Park Florida where the Albin Polasek Museum is located.
