Notes

Ardente seems to have been active in the cities of Faenza, Pisa and Lucca before he went to Turin, where he was employed by Emmanuele Filiberto of Savoia. There is no reason to doubt the old signature which appears on this drawing, despite the fact that we have no knowledge of the graphic style of this artist.
