Item Overview

Description

Large 20 x 30- inch Cibachrome print on Ilfochrome Classic paper. Number 1 from an edition of 20. According to the MAGNUM website, this was taken "during the Marxist rule of Maurice Bishop, who gained power by overthrowing Eric Gairy in a bloodless revolution. Bishop, a protege of Fidel Castro, based many of his societal reforms on the Cuban model, causing considerable unease in the United States. He was eventually murdered, allegedly by his second in command, Bernard Coard, who was considered by the U.S. to be the radical mastermind behind the Bishop government. Bishop's murder ultimately led to the invasion of Grenada by the United States in 1983. The photographs show real life on the island under the control of Bishop's and Coard's newly formed People's Revolutionary Army." The brilliant colors are interesting to compare with a high quality digital print.
