Notes

Alexander Kiselev studied at the St. Petersburg Academy and he later became a professor in 1897. As a leading member of the Russian Itinerant movement, Kiselev became well known throughout Russia for his virtuostic landscapes. The present lot is without doubt among his finer works. He depicts a quiet afternoon in the country; the sun streams through the clouds and the trees are lush with the warmth of spring.
