Alexander Colville 1920 - Canadian colour serigraph on paper Fête Champêtre
18 7/8 x 18 7/8 inches 47.9 x 47.9 centimeters signed, editioned II/XXX and dated 1984 Literature:Philip Fry, Alex Colville: Paintings, Prints and Processes, 1983 - 1994, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, 1995, page 150, reproduced page 151 Provenance:Private Collection, Montreal Alex Colville said of this peaceful and intimate work, "There is a great painting of this title which I always thought was a Georgione, but I recently discovered is a Titian. I use the title as homage to the painting. The woman is giving forth; the man is recumbent, taking it in."
Philip Fry writes, "This is an intimate festival, the delight of a quiet woodland clearing, still, full of gentle song and repose." The man "listens in tranquil rapture to her song or perhaps has already slipped away to that serene, resonant place where music and the flow of the waters are one."
