ALFRED GUNNAR BJAREBY (SWEDISH-AMERICAN 1899-1967), "Street in Paris," February 28, 1933, oil on canvas laid down on board, 11 1/2 x 15 in. (29.2 x 38.1 cm.), signed and dated lower right. Alfred Bjaraby emigrated to the United States from Sweden in 1923 and was famous as a Rockport/Gloucester/Cape Ann painter as well as a being a noted mineralogist. He studied with Gustave Boulanger at the Academie Julian in Paris, where he exhibited at the 1933 Salon. This painting from 1933 may have been part of that exhibition, as it also bears an exhibition number lower right in red.
