Description

Alfred Richard Blundell (1883-1968) View of Ely Cathedral from the Fens at Sunset signed lower left "Alfred R Blundell, 1931" oil on copper 96 x 134cm Provenance: Commissioned by the Great White Horse public house in Ipswich, Suffolk (according to an old label on the reverse). The Great White Horse was featured by Dickens in The Pickwick Papers. Alfred Richard Blundell was a painter, printmaker and glass engraver, born in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. He studied at the Slade School of Art in 1913, and later showed at the Royal Academy, New English Art Club and the Alpine Club Gallery. The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, holds examples of his work. Blundell lived at Cavenham Mill, near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
